Module Two
You are
the brand.
In B2C contracting, the owner's personality IS the company. In my experience that matters more than how polished your delivery is. Here's what to do with that.
Runtime · 35 minutes
02.02
The pitch that lost the room
The most polished pitch
I ever gave
lost the room.
The clumsy, honest one
is the one that signed.
A kitchen table in Edison, NJ. 2024.
Module 02 · You are the brand
02
02.03
What I figured out
You are not
your business's
marketing team.
You ARE the marketing. There's no separate brand voice to develop. Your actual voice is the asset.
Module 02 · You are the brand
03
02.04
Every homeowner has this
A salesman radar.
It fires on polish.
In my experience, polished delivery sets off the same pattern recognition as the storm chasers and the door knockers. The job is to not trigger it.
Module 02 · You are the brand
04
02.05
What I've actually seen work
It's a mix.
Not a rule.
In my experience it isn't edited versus raw. A clean cut and good light help people follow you; the wind in the mic and the unscripted moment are what make them trust you. Most of the videos I've seen work use some of both.
Module 02 · You are the brand
05
02.06
What works instead
01
Rough audio
Wind noise. Truck idle. The supply house intercom in the background. You don't have to scrub all of it out in post.
02
The truck cab
Phone propped on the steering wheel. Forty five seconds between jobs. Three takes, done before pulling out.
03
The supply counter
Filmed at the places your customers never see. Marks you as in the trade, not selling the trade.
Module 02 · You are the brand
06
02.07
Show the places they don't see
The ABC Supply counter.
The 6am loading dock.
Anywhere a customer never goes.
Studio backdrops mark you as someone selling the trade. The places that mark you as inside the trade are unglamorous on purpose.
Module 02 · You are the brand
07
02.08
The hands tell the story
Scars.
Callouses.
Old steel toes.
If you've been in the trade for more than five years, your hands are part of the credibility. Don't hide them in a frame.
Module 02 · You are the brand
08
02.09
The objection I hear most
I can't be on camera.
I'm not that kind
of person.
Said by every operator I've ever met. Including me, the first time.
Module 02 · You are the brand
09
02.10
What I tell operators who say that
The fix isn't
becoming a camera person.
The fix is doing less.
No script. No second take. No "let me redo that" energy. Just talk like you would at the truck.
Module 02 · You are the brand
10
02.11
Module 1 callback
The Edison net metering moment
wasn't an accident.
I leave that hesitation in.
Any time I don't know an answer mid video, I look it up on camera. The hesitation builds more trust than five "I'm an expert" beats.
Module 02 · You are the brand
11
02.12
The discipline
3 takes.
Never more.
By take four your face goes flat. Take one is jittery. Take two or three is the zone. Past that, you're rehearsing yourself into a salesman.
Module 02 · You are the brand
12
02.13
The brand asset most operators ignore
Your voice
is the brand.
The way you talk to a customer at the truck, that's the brand voice. Not the corporate version. The actual one.
Module 02 · You are the brand
13
02.14
Small repeating things
A hat. A phrase. A closing line.
One recurring tic builds
recognition faster than a logo.
An operator I point to: the same trucker cap, the same closing, "I'll show you what I found." Six months in, viewers see the cap and know what's coming.
Module 02 · You are the brand
14
02.15
Pick the one that's already you
01
The Inspector
Diagnosing what others missed. "Here's what I found." Cold, technical, slow.
02
The Storyteller
"Last Tuesday a homeowner called me crying." Narrative led, emotionally grounded.
03
The Contrarian
"Most roofers in this state are doing X wrong." Direct, opinionated, polarizing on purpose.
Module 02 · You are the brand
15
02.16
What to expect
Month 6.
That's when they
remember your face.
Most operators quit at month 3 because "nothing is happening." Month 6 is when the algorithm has enough signal and the local audience has seen you 8 to 12 times.
Module 02 · You are the brand
16
02.17
This week's work
Record one video in the truck cab. No edit, no script.
Watch your top video. Identify what's rough. Don't fix it.
Pick a recurring element. A hat, a phrase, a place.

Homeowners don't browse home improvement content.
They search it after something has happened.
